I really enjoyed the practicals in science lessons. I enjoyed designing experiments, especially when the results went my way. I had some really good science teachers at school who were very passionate about science and passed it on to me. In fact, one of these teachers left school when I was in Year 9 and I was gutted for months! He had a big impact on me.

That’s a good question. Well I didn’t always think of myself as a traditional scientist because I completed a psychology degree (which is not a traditional science subject). However, since completing my education (particularly my Masters and now my PhD), I can see how it overlaps with other science subjects (like biology, neuroscience and even statistics). I got into science because I really enjoyed learning about the human mind and body and really enjoyed discovering more about it. That’s why doing research is fascinating to me – because I get to be part of that discovery process. science forms the foundation of our knowledge and without it, we would know very little about our society. I hope this helps 🙂

from what I remember I just really enjoyed science at school (minus chemistry I hated it, I just didn’t get it). I just thought physics and biology were really cool how all theses different systems worked together. It wasn’t until I went to uni and saw how chemistry was applied to the environment and it all fell into place, and most of my work now involves chemistry

I fell into it really, I enjoyed it at school and chose to do chemistry at A level – which I failed. when I returned to studying I didn’t initially realise that what I was doing was science! over my years studying I have realised that I am actually quite good at it and I have a passion for all sorts subjects (not just scientific ones either) – a far cry from where I thought I would be 30 years ago 🙂
